.
connection with nature through play, community and hands on experience
Terra Tribe offers children an outdoor nature program where they put down the screens and experience and learn about nature in nature. Our program works on the 3 values of permaculture. Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share. The focus of the program is getting children engaged with nature, using our natural bush surroundings as the basis of their play, while encouraging natural social curiosity and empathy to connect with the Earth around them.
The forest school ethos that our program is based on has many documented benefits for social, emotional and physical development. When given the opportunities children are very capable of managing their own risks and given a safe environment to explore those skills can show remarkable progress. Australian kids for so long were outdoor children, recent studies have shown that by age 8 children spend on average 1 year in front of a screens, and this increases as they get older. The program also incorporates our permaculture far with learning of growing their own food, managing food waste, sustainability, composting and worm farms, environmental protection and building confidence in bush settings. Terra Tribe is based in Howard, Qld but offers opportunities in Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Maryborough and surrounding areas at selected sites. Outdoor nature connection programs such as outdoor playgroup, regular Forest Kindy program for 2-6 year olds, and offering nature connection program to school aged children during school holidays. Catering for children aged birth - 14 years. Children will build confidence and self esteem through taking manageable risks, build a community with fellow children and create a sense of ownership and belonging over nature and the outdoors. When ownership is taken we can show children how important it is to be sustainable, care for the environment and be proactive in protecting flora and fauna. Our programs are child led, there is opportunities for free play, making natural crafts, whittle wood, jump in the mud, climb trees, light and cook on fire and build shelters and forts.
